Answer Engine Optimization
AEO (Answer Engine optimiztaion) is the process of improving an online presence so that a brand, content, or product is more likely to appear favorably within AI-generated responses. AEO is a synonym of GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
Why it matters.
Unlike traditional SEO, which targets search rankings, AEO's goal is visibility at the moment of recommendation, ensuring AI models see, understand, and reference a brand's expertise. This optimization aims to influence the actual content of the answers that AI models generate by focusing on factors like relevance to search intent, the citability and clarity of source content, and schema markup.
How we use it
In the past, traditional search ranking was like matching keywords on a shopping list to labels on soup cans. AI ranking starts much earlier by figuring out why you are asking the question, the user search intent. Then it looks for credible sources and clear text it can directly copy, rather then syntezising. This means there is a shift in how content should be written and presented. FAQ
Can AEO be done for free?
Oh yes! That's how we started. We suggest starting with ChatGPT, as they have the largest user base. Turn off personalisation; this is important, if not, your results will be skewed. Then ask queries where you want your brand to show up, like "Web development firm in Stockholm", save the response and track what links are cited, which brands are mentioned & their position. By doing this, you will get a good overview of the competitive space and learn what the AI model prefers to suggest.
Is AEO and GEO the same?
Yes, as we see it, these are just two synonyms describing the same goal.
